Go VE: Introduction to Primo VE Data Normalization and Configuration
This guide provides an introduction to the data management, mapping tools, and capabilities that allow users to discover your library's resources with Primo VE.
Mapping Source Data to Display, Search, Facet and Resource Type Fields in Primo VE
With Primo, source data is mapped with a set of normalization rules (which are initially based on a default Alma template) to various sections in the PNX. With Primo VE, this information is mapped internally for you and is described in the Mapping to the Display, Facets, and Search Sections in the Primo VE Record document. Because Primo VE is integrated on the Alma server, there is no longer a need to harvest and normalize the data off-line. In most cases, changes to Primo VE configuration and bibliographic records in Alma appear very quickly in the UI without having to run a job or process.
It is recommended that you compare your mappings in Primo with Primo VE's mappings to see if you need to make any customizations.
Additional fields are mapped in Primo VE based on common local fields created by customers in their Primo configuration. As with Primo, Primo VE allows you to map additional information using local fields. For more information, see Creating Local Fields in Primo VE.
Primo VE Normalization and Configuration Guides
Primo VE has a large suite of tools to manage various aspects of your data. For the following configuration areas, there is an article that provides the necessary information to recreate your Primo configuration to Primo VE:
-
Display fields – Display fields appear in the brief display of records and under the Details section on a record's Full Display page. For information on how to customize these fields, see Go VE: Customizing the Default Display Fields in Primo VE.
-
Local fields – Local fields allow you to map additional information that is not part of the default mapping of display, facets, and search fields. For information on how to create local fields, see Go VE: Converting Local Fields in Primo to Primo VE.
-
Local resource types – Local resource types allow you to define material types that are not part of the default mapping. For information on how to create a local resource type, see Go VE: Converting Local Resource Types in Primo to Primo VE.
-
Local links – Local links allow you to define additional links that will appear on record's Full Display page. For information on how to create a local link, see Go VE: Converting Local Links in Primo to General Electronic Services in Primo VE.
-
Full text indexing – the ability to index full text for records that contain a URL to the full text. For more information, see Go VE: Full Text Indexing in Primo VE.
-
Dedup and FRBR – Dedup and FRBR allow you to group redundant or similar titles in search results. For information on how to control the Dedup and FRBR groups, see Go VE: Managing DEDUP and FRBR Groups in Primo VE.
