360 Link: Create a Custom Link that Sends Citation Metadata to a Library Catalog
- Product: 360 Link
My library uses 360 Link with Index-Enhanced Direct Linking (IEDL), how can a library catalog custom link be set up?
You can set up a custom link for users to query your library catalog by ISSN, ISBN, Author, etcetera, without the user having to enter the search term.
If your library catalog is from a vendor listed below, you can use the linking syntax provided by replacing [YourCatalogBaseURL] with the base URL for your catalog, and pasting the URL into the URL field on the custom link setup page in the administration console.
If your library catalog is from another vendor, see the below Figuring Out Library Catalog Linking Syntax section for suggested steps to identify the catalog URL needed for your custom link.
The rest of this document covers the two scenarios above. Click a link below to jump to the section you want to read:

Vendors with Known Linking Syntax
The below vendors' linking syntax is information we have gathered from libraries using 360 Link. Remember to replace [YourCatalogBaseURL] with the base URL for your catalog, prior to pasting the URL into the administration console. We recommend testing the custom link to make sure it works as expected, prior to providing the link to your users. Information about previewing your changes is available in the Previewing Your Changes section of 360 Link: Administration Console -- Custom Links: Create and Maintain.

Identify the Base URL used for your catalog. The three URLs vary in the syntax that follows [YourCatalogBaseURL]:
http://[YourCatalogBaseURL]/uhtbin/cgisirsi/0/0/5?searchdata1=
http://[YourCatalogBaseURL]/uhtbin/cgisirsi.exe/x/0/5?searchdata1=
http://[YourCatalogBaseURL]/uhtbin/cgisirsi/x/0/0/5?searchdata1=
Use the appropriate Base URL above, and add either <?issn?> or <?isbn?>.
- For example, a library that uses the second Base URL listed above, would use this syntax to search by ISSN: http://[YourCatalogBaseURL]/uhtbin/cgisirsi.exe/x/0/5?searchdata1=<?issn?>
Search by Title
Use the appropriate Base URL above, add <?title?>, and also add this additional syntax for title searching:
&srchfield1=TI^TITLE^SERIES^Title%20Processing^title&search_entries1=TI&search_type1=TITLE
For example, a library that uses the first Base URL listed above, would use this search sytnax:
- http://[YourCatalogBaseURL]//uhtbin/cgisirsi/0/0/5?searchdata1=<?title?>&srchfield1=TI^TITLE^SERIES^Title%20Processing^title&search_entries1=TI&search_type1=TITLE
