Will Voyager Support migrate existing Voyager data to a new 3rd party system?

    • Product: Voyager
    • Product Version: all
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Multi-Tenant Direct, Dedicated-Direct, Local, TotalCare

    Question

If a site is migrating away from Voyager, will Support extract and migrate the existing Voyager data to the new system, or provide a copy of the Voyager database?

    Answer

Support does not provide a copy of the Voyager database for sites that are migrating to a new ILS, or perform data extraction for the purpose of migrating sites to a third-party ILS.  However, customers are free to extract their own data using Voyager's utilities, such as MarcExport and Patron Extract, and to run queries and reports on the existing data to provide more information to the new vendor.  Support can offer assistance in determining which tables to use to report on specific data in the Voyager database, and can answer any questions about the MarcExport and Patron Extract utilities.

The new ILS vendor should be able to provide more guidance as to how they intend to migrate the existing data and in what format they expect this data; if they've migrated customers from Voyager previously, they may also be able to provide more direction about what data they need, offer suggestions as to which queries should be run, or offer references to other customers that would be willing to share what steps they took during their migration.
