    Viewing Recommendation Feeds

    All users can view the recommendations feed. 
    The following roles are required to edit the recommendations feed:
    • Add titles to the virtual shopping cart: Rialto Manager, Purchasing Operator, Super Selector, Selector
    • Change the feed profile: Rialto Administrator, Super Selector 
    • Dismiss titles from feed: Purchasing Operator, Super Selector, Selector
    • Add offers from feed to a list: Purchasing Operator, Super Selector, Selector
    • Add offers to DDA pool: Purchasing Operator, Super Selector, Selector
    • Change Library or Fund Associated with a DDA Feed: Purchasing Operator, Super Selector, Selector
    Recommendations in Rialto are designed to discover offers of interest to a selector that might not otherwise have been highlighted. A Recommendations Feed is a list of offers matching a particular combination of criteria (such as offers within a particular subject area, published within a certain year range, on a certain platform, or any combination of the above). This combination of criteria is called the recommendation feed's profile.
    Feeds are best used for browsing offers based on general conditions. If you would like to find a particular title, you can search for it in the Rialto Marketplace. For more information, see Searching the Marketplace.
    Recommendations Feed profiles are created and maintained by the Rialto Administrator of your institution, and can be configured by users with the required permissions (see Managing Recommendation Feed Profiles). Recommendations Feed profiles are generally broad and designed to enforce institution-level baselines such as price caps or date ranges.  The resulting feed can then be tuned by each selector to reflect the preferences and requirements of their subject area.
    Once a profile has generated a feed, each user reviewing the feed may customize it by using facets, changing the sort order, and renaming it.  That feed will then be customized for that user without affecting other users' view of the feed.  This allows each user to maintain their own version of the feed that matches their needs (such as subject area or format preferences).
    When the offers are displayed, they are sorted according to the ranking profile chosen by the selector (for example, by Recently Published, with the most recently published on top, or by Readership Level, with Graduate Research level on top). Before the library selection staff can work with a recommendation feed, the Rialto Administrator needs to create the ranking profile and associate it with the recommendations feed profile (see Managing Ranking Profiles).

    New titles matching the feed profile will automatically become available in the feed. At any time, Selectors can open a feed and purchase titles, add titles to a list, or dismiss unsuitable titles. A title that has been dismissed will no longer appear in that feed. Over time, the feed will be refined to hide the titles that you are likely to be disinterested in.

    Recommendation feeds are accessed from the My Feeds page (Market > Market My Feeds):

    You can do the following with the recommendation feeds:

    Viewing and Selecting Titles from Feed

    To select a title from a feed:
    1. On My Feeds page (Market > Market > My Feeds), select a feed.The list of offers matching the feed profile opens. 
      • To switch to a different feed, select the arrow by the feed name at the top of the list and select another feed profile.  
      • Your feed is associated with a default ranking profile. This determines the order in which the offers are displayed in the feed. To change the order in which the offers are displayed, select the arrow by the ranking profile name at the top of the list and select a different ranking profile. 
    2. You can fine tune the feed to better address your needs by using the facets panel on the left side of the page. For details, see Working with Facets

      The facet values that appear in the facets list are displayed dynamically, and might change when the feed profile criteria change. For more information, see Viewing and Editing the Feed Profile

    3. Select the offer you are interested in.
      The offer you see is the offer that Rialto found to be the closest match to the selected feed profile and rank, out of all offers of this work. Rialto determines the best offer based on the selected ranking profile.  For example, if the feed is configured to display only ebooks, you will see here the ebook offers that match the feed's configuration, with the details of the best offer shown. If the title has also print offers, you will see them as part of the additional offers that do not match the feed configuration. 
      Rialto displays additional available offers as follows:
      • Number of alternative offers that match your feed profile, displayed in green, 
      • Number of offers that do not match the feed profile, displayed in blue,
      • Number of titles matching the feed profile that are already owned by your institution, displayed in orange.

      The order in which the additional offers are displayed is determined by the selected ranking profile.
    4. Click on either of these indications to view the included offers. The system will open the list of additional offers.

      For the matching offers that are already owned by your institution, Rialto displays the location of each copy, the total number of owned copies at this location, and the number of currently available (not signed-out) copies out of the total number.

    Fine-tuning the Recommendations Feed 

    You can refine the recommendations feed results in the following ways. 
    All the below actions apply to your unique view of the feed. They do not apply to other users, nor to other feeds. To propagate the changes to all users, edit the feed profile, or work with your Rialto Administrator to edit it (see Viewing and Editing the Feed Profile). 
    • Refine a feed to suit your needs. You can layer additional filters on feed results by using the Facets panel (see Working with Facets). To keep the facets applied indefinitely, select Save at the top of the page.

      The display of facet values is dynamic, and reflects only the values that conform to both these conditions:

      • Included in the profile criteria, either directly ('License = Single User') or indirectly by not excluding it from the profile ('License ≠ Single User' means that all other license types are included), or just by leaving the criterion out of the profile (the criterion 'License' is not part of the profile).
      • Belongs to offers that are available in the Rialto Marketplace catalog. 
      Otherwise, you will not see these values in the facets list. For example, if you do not see any offers with the 'Single User' type of license in your feed, the reason could be that Rialto did not find any matching offers in the Marketplace, OR it could be due to the restrictions of your profile. 
    • Change the order in which the offers are displayed. To do that, select a different ranking profile at the top of the feed. Ranking profiles should have a description, for better clarity of purpose. If no description was added, work with your Rialto Administrator, as only users with this role can configure ranking profiles.  To permanently associate a specific ranking profile with a feed, save your feed once the ranking profile has been applied.  
    • Dismiss titles that do not match the feed (or for any other reason). This helps Rialto to display best-fitting offers in the future, and ensures that you see only offers that suit your needs (see Dismissing Titles from Feed). 
    • Refine the feed profile. Edit the profile or work with your Rialto Administrator to edit the profile (see Viewing and Editing the Feed Profile).
    • Rename the feed. You can do this on the feed page. The new name is visible to you only. 

    Adding Titles to the Shopping Cart

    Once you selected the titles you are interested in, you can place them in the Rialto Marketplace virtual shopping cart. You can accumulate many titles in the shopping cart, and then check out all of them in one action (see Adding Offers to Shopping Cart and Checking Out).

    To add titles to the shopping cart:

    1. From the feed page, select the titles you want to purchase, and select Add to Cart to the right of the title. 

    2. Upon clicking Add to Cart, the title receives the "In your cart" badge. Other users will see the "In others carts" badge on these work and offer, in order to prevent duplicate orders. In addition, a confirmation appears in the upper-right corner of your Alma window, and a count indicator on your cart displays the total count of items currently in your cart.

      To see the names of other users that have the offer in their carts, hover over the "In other carts" badge. 

    3. When you are ready to proceed to checkout, select the cart icon.png Cart icon to open the cart. The cart opens with the titles accumulated in it so far.

    Dismissing Offers from Feed

    You can dismiss from the feed any work that do not match your area of expertise, the feed's purpose, or for any other reason. Dismissing a work will dismiss all offers from that work (including those published in the future).  Works dismissed from a feed may still appear on other feeds with similar or shared criteria. They will also remain on other users' versions of the same feed.
    When dismissing a title, you can indicate a reason for dismissal. Rialto tracks dismissal reasons, which may be used in the future to improve recommendations.
    You can dismiss a title without indicating a dismissal reason. You can do that to save time, or when dismissing multiple titles in bulk, or when dismissing due to reasons other than the pre-defined dismissal reasons. However, dismissals without a specific reason are not analyzed by Rialto and will not contribute to further fine-tuning of the feed results.
    To dismiss an offer from the feed:
    1. On your feed’s page (Market > Market > My Feeds > your feed), select the title you want to dismiss.
    2. Select one of the following options in the row actions list:
      • Select the arrow by the Dismiss option and select a dismissal reason from a list. 

      • Select Dismiss to dismiss the offer. 
        Rialto issues a notification that the title was successfully dismissed. The title still appears in the feed, but it is grayed-out.
    3. Dismiss as many titles as you need from the feed.
    4. To restore the title in the list (for example, if the title was dismissed by mistake), select the grayed-out title and select Restore in the panel that opens.
    5. To finally remove the title from the list, click the Purge dismissed offers on the top of the list. Once purged, the titles cannot be restored in the feed. Titles will automatically be purged at the end of the session.

    Adding Offers to Lists

    A List contains offers that a user has saved for later. Adding an offer to a list allows you to save the offer and return to it at later time for further analysis, subsequent purchasing, or for any other need. You can open the list to see all of the offers you saved.
    You can add a single offer to several lists. To add an offer to a list, the list must already exist in the system. For instructions on creating lists, see Working with Lists
    To add an offer to a list:
    1. On My Feeds page (Market > Market > My Feeds), select your feed. The list of titles that match the feed profile opens.
    2. Select a title you want to add to the list, and select Add to List in the row actions list. Then select the list to which to add the offer.

      Once done, the "In your lists" badge appears by the offer. To see the lists in which the offer is included, hover over the badge. Other users will see the "In others lists" badge on these work and offer, in order to prevent duplicate work.

    3. To add the same offer to another list, repeat the above steps, select Add to List and select another list.

    4. To return to the recommendation feed, select the back arrow icon.png Back arrow at the top of the list. 

    Viewing and Editing the Feed Profile

    All users can view the recommendations feed profile. 

    The following roles are required to edit the recommendations feed:

    • Rialto Administrator
    • Super Selector 

    A Recommendations Feed is a list of offers matching a particular combination of criteria (such as offers of a creative work that are within a particular topic of your interest, published within a certain year range on a certain platform). This combination of criteria is called the feed's profile. All users can view the feed profile. Users with the necessary roles (Rialto Administrator, Super Selector) can modify the profile from the feed page. 

    At any moment, you can view the criteria of the profile from the feed results. If you think that your profile is too restrictive, you can edit its criteria. If you do not have the necessary permissions to edit it, contact your Rialto Administrator.

    Any changes you make on the My Feeds page are local and are visible to you only. To propagate the change to all users, edit the feed profile from the Recommendations Profile List page, or work with your Rialto Administrator to edit it. The changes are not propagated to the users who already customized the relevant parts of the profile (for example, its name) locally. 

    To view the feed profile:
    1. On My Feeds page (Market > My Feeds), select your feed. The list of titles that match the feed profile opens.
    2. To see the inventory information for the title already owned by your institution, click the FEED stub at the top of the right-hand panel. The Feed Details panel opens with feed criteria.

    To edit the feed profile:
    1. On My Feeds page (Market > Market > My Feeds), select your feed. The list of titles that match the feed profile opens.
    2. To see the current profile that generates this feed, click the FEED stub at the top of the Facets panel. The Feed Details panel opens with feed criteria.
    3. If you have the relevant role, you will see a link to Edit Feed. Click it. You are taken to the Feed Profile page, where you can edit the profile as required. For instructions, see Configuring the Recommendations Feed Profile

    Adding Offers to DDA Pool

    The following roles are required to add offers to the DDA pool:

    • Purchasing Operator, Super Selector , Selector

    If your institution is subscribed to a Demand Driven Acquisition (DDA, the same as Patron Driven Acquisition, PDA) agreement with a platform (see Patron Driven Acquisition), the Rialto Marketplace displays the electronic offers eligible for DDA with the DDA icon by the title. 

    If an offer is eligible for DDA, you can add it to the DDA program your library is running with the platform for the offer. This means that once added, the platform monitors the usage of this offer by the patrons. Offers that are accessed more than a certain number of times (the specific number is defined in the PDA agreement) are automatically purchased by your library. Till the moment of purchase, while the offer is accumulating the required number of views, the offer is considered to reside in the DDA pool

    Adding Offers to DDA

    To add the offer in the DDA pool, you need to specify the ordering library and indicate the fund that will be encumbered once the offer reaches the usage threshold defined in the platform agreement and is purchased.

    In case you are adding many offers of a single work in the DDA pool, you can speed up this process by changing the default option in the row actions list from Add to Cart to Add to DDA for the eligible offers. 

    To add an offer in the DDA pool:

    1. Select an offer that has the DDA icon by the title. The Configure DDA Library and Fund option becomes available at the top of the list.  

    2. Open the Configure DDA Library and Fund option and select the ordering library and fund for this title, then click Apply.

    3. For a more convenient workflow, you can select the Add to DDA action as default for current selection. This changes the primary action button from Add to Cart to to Add to DDA. This option works only within your current list of offers. Once you leave the current list of offers, the default option changes back to Add to Cart.

    4. To add the offer in the DDA pool, select Add to DDA in the row actions list. 
      The offer is added in to the DDA pool, and the In DDA Pool badge appears by the offer:

    Adding Offers to DDA Automatically

    In addition to manually adding offers to DDA, DDA-eligible offers can be added to DDA pool automatically, via DDA feeds, if these were defined by your Rialto Administrator. The feeds run weekly and add an user-defined number of eligible records ('cap') to the pool. For details, see Managing DDA Profiles

    The cap on the number of records that can be added to the pool within a single session is defined by the Rialto Administrator in the DDA profile.

    The frequency with which the profile runs is defined in the system and cannot be modified. 

    Changing DDA Library or Fund Associated with a Feed

    If your institution is subscribed to a Demand-Driven Acquisition (or Patron-Driven Acquisitions, PDA) agreement with a vendor (see Patron Driven Acquisition), the Marketplace displays the offers available for DDA with the DDA badge by the offer.

    To add a title to your DDA pool for that platform, first choose the fund and ordering library from the top of the feed. The selected library and fund will be used should a purchase be triggered on that title.

    To change the DDA library or fund:
    1. On My Feeds page (Market > Market > My Feeds), select your feed. The list of offers that match the feed profile opens.

    2. Select the arrow by Configure DDA Library and Fund option at the top of the list and select a different library and fund for this offers.

      For offers that are DDA-eligible, Add to DDA will now be available in the row actions.

    This option is only available for offers with the DDA badge.
